One of the Post Graduate academic degrees that are awarded by the Universities is the Doctor of Philosophy; abbreviated as PhD. Depending on the time periods for entry-level degrees and other factors, PhD programs vary from one country to another as well as from institution to the other. With the attainment of the degree, you earn the academic title of a Doctor. The courses are available to all students who meet minimum requirements worldwide.

Doctorate Education

A doctorate Education is an academic degree or professional degree that, in most countries, qualifies the holder to teach at the university level in the specific field of his or her degree, or to work in a specific profession. In some countries, the highest degree in a given field is called a terminal degree. The term doctorate comes from the Latin docere, meaning "to teach."

PhD studies (third cycle)

In the event you are applying for doctoral studies at university in Slovenia, you are required to be in possession of a relevant diploma or Master's degree program. After having successfully completed a Diploma or Master programme, you can continue with a Doctoral/PhD programme. All Doctoral/PhD programmes offered at the Universities have been adapted to the European study structure. They comprise six semesters and lead according to the subject field of the dissertation to a Doctoral or a PhD degree. The degree obtained after completion of any programme is fixed in the respective curriculum.

Admission requirements

  • • Masters degree (study programme); or
  • • Masters degree in studies similar to study programme who have passed the necessary additional requirements, In case of enrolment limitations, applicants shall be selected on the basis their performance demonstrated in Masters Studies (average grade, Master's thesis grade).

Admission may also be gained by an applicant having completed a comparable study abroad. Prior to enrolment the applicant must apply for the recognition of completed education.
